The truth is, I’ve only seen 5 of them since turning 18.
Yes, most of those I saw between 16 and 17.
Crazy, huh?
So, imagine my surprise when I learned a few years ago that my 22-year-old boyfriend had never been to a concert.
Yeah, never!
I really couldn’t believe it! So, like any great significant other, I set out to change that. But I had something special in mind and had to wait for the right opportunity to arrive.
I was waiting for Brantley.
Gah! I love him, and I was dying to see him. But the first time he came around, our son was sick, and of course, we can’t just leave him at my parents and go play if he’s throwing up.
But this year, it finally happened!
September 29.
Brantley Gilbert was hosting Family Jam in OKC.
We’re talking Uncle Kracker, Casey Donahew, Brian Davis and Greg Bates.
I’d always wanted to see Casey Donahew and Greg Bates, but I could have passed on Uncle Kracker.
The only problem was it had been raining for almost a week.
And the rain didn’t stop for us the night of the concert, either.

Now, just in case you’re planning on sitting through a 6 hour concert in the pouring rain, let me just give you a tip.
The rain makes for terrible pictures!
Just keep that in mind.

And rain plus bright lights only makes it worse. So by the time the sun went down and Brantley took the stage, I had given up on taking pictures.

My favorite part of the night was when Brantley came out, after playing about half the set, and said, “Ya know? You guys have been standing in the rain all day, and you’re standing out there now rocking with me. What the hell am I doing up here?” The he unplugged, grabbed an acoustic guitar and sat on the edge of the stage in the rain and played for us.
Now, I’ve seen a lot, and this was, honestly, the best concert I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun!
And Bobby said he couldn’t have asked for a better first concert.
